Information for PoD students
Study plan
Students must submit online (via Uniweb) the study plan for both the first and second year of the laurea magistrale ex DM 270/2004.
It can be filled during a period of few weeks in autumn, and a shorter period in spring (see http://www.scienze.unipd.it/index.php?id=piani_270/ for the exact dates).
For students of the first year: the study plan must contain the list of all first year exams and, possibly, also free choice exams.
For students of second year: the study plan must contain the courses of the whole two years program.
Some courses are mandatory, other courses can be chosen autonomously by the student (CREDITI LIBERI).
When all credits correspond to courses proposed by the Laurea Magistrale in Physics of Data, the study plan is automatically approved. When the plan includes other courses among those activated by the University of Padova, the plan is subject to approval. Students are invited to choose courses that are consistent with the scientific project of the Laurea Magistrale, in order to increase the chance of approval.
Classes timetable
The schedule of the first/second semester classes has been published on "Portale Studenti dell'Università degli Studi di Padova" (lectures from xxx to xxx ).
We recommend to check the schedule week by week since the timetable of some courses, beginning later than xxxx , might be modified after the first few weeks.
Exam schedule
Exam dates will be available at the beginning of the academic year.
The official dates will be inserted in Uniweb by the professors.
Thesis
Please note that there are two distinct items in the teaching set-up:
- Internship: 8 credits
It is a curricular internship or an educational and work experience carried out during the course of studies to integrate the own curriculum. It must be done before the achievement of the title and involves the acquisition of 8 formative credits (corresponding to about 1 month and a half internship, 25 hours per ECTS), as indicated by didactic regulation of the study course. It can be done in a company or in a research center either indicated in our website, or directly suggested by the student or by other professors in contact with the student).
- Final Master Thesis: 22 credits
There are two possible alternatives:
1) Performing a Master thesis not (necessary) related to the internship activity. In this case, beyond the internship the student should spend about 2 and a half months of thesis on a given topic of her/his choice supervised by any professor of the Physics of Data master. Students can contact directly the professors (related to the topic of interest) for the outline (title and abstract) of the thesis argument.
This option foresees the presence of a trainee supervisor, of a thesis supervisor and a co-supervisor. We suggest contacting the thesis supervisor before the beginning of the internship, so he/she can propose internship (and trainee supervisor). The evaluation of the Internship will be equated to that of an exam and will enter the average weighting of the student's marks.
Degree score:
0-4 points given by the thesis supervisor,
0-2 points given by an external referee
+1, -1 points given by the thesis commission
0-1 speed point (degree obtained within 23/10)
“Cum Laude” threshold: 113 points
2) Perform the thesis activities as an integrated part of the internship: the thesis will consist of a report of the activity carried out during the internship (at research center or company) introduced and framed in the related state of the art literature, and in a Physics of Data approach. The minimum expected duration is 4 months. This option requires the presence of an internship / thesis supervisor (e.g. staff of the company or of the research center and an internal thesis advisor. The project will be evaluated by both internal and external thesis advisor. The students will thus interact with both external and internal supervisor so to decide the outline of the project and its structure before starting it.
Degree score:
0-4 points given by the internship supervisor,
0-2 points given by the internal advisor
+1, -1 points given by the thesis commission
0-1 speed point (degree obtained within 23/10)
“Cum Laude” threshold: 113 points
In any case, before starting the internship, the student must communicate to the Teaching Secretariat (through the form below) which option intends to choose for the final master thesis.
